"Mulder, it's me."
As one of the cues for tipping your glass when
playing The X-Files drinking game back in the day, barely an episode
would go by without the players getting just a little bit tipsy
thanks to Dana Scully's tendency to call Mulder and utter those
immortal lines.
But Scully's impact on the world extended far beyond
a well-known utterance. In fact her name is now written in the urban
dictionary - to 'Scully' someone is "to concoct a logical but
elaborate or statistically improbable explanation for phenomena that
appears supernatural."
According to the experts, the first use of the term
as a descriptive occurred on another hit scifi series, Buffy the
Vampire Slayer in the season 1 episode, "The Pack":
GILES: It's devastating. He's turned into a
sixteen-year-old boy. Course, you'll have to kill him.
BUFFY: Giles, I'm serious.
GILES: So am I. Except for the part about killing him. Testosterone
is a great equalizer. It turns all men into morons. He will, however,
get over it.
BUFFY: (exasperated) I cannot believe that you, of all people, are
trying to Scully me. There is something supernatural at work here.
Get your books! Look stuff up!
Scully, you're famous!
Of course, back in the day she was just a special
agent. See? It says so on the business card. :-)
As with the Fox Mulder business card, this original
business card produced for the characters of the series became
available through the good folks at the former Legends in Time.
The card is mounted in a clean strong plastic case,
and has been wrapped in plastic since purchased. The card is a
standard business card size, the outer casing approximately 6" x 3".
